Video Integration

Square Orb allows you to mix high-resolution photography and video seamlessly within the same gallery canvas. Visitors can browse visual video posters on your page, and clicking any video launches a full-screen, responsive player inside the Lightbox.

Supported Video Platforms

Square Orb supports the three most popular video hosting formats:

Format / SourceURL PatternPlayer Implementation
YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID
Responsive privacy-enhanced YouTube iframe player
Vimeohttps://vimeo.com/VIDEO_IDHigh-definition Vimeo player iframe
Self-Hosted MP4 / WebMhttps://yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/...mp4Native HTML5 <video> element with custom controls

Videos in Square Orb are paired with WordPress media attachments. The attached image acts as the video thumbnail (poster image) in your gallery grid, masonry, or carousel layout.

  1. Open any page or post containing the Square Orb Canvas block in the WordPress block editor.
  2. In the right sidebar, expand the Gallery Assets panel.
  3. Locate the thumbnail you wish to link to a video.
  4. Paste the video link into the Video URL (YouTube, Vimeo, MP4) input field.
  5. Save or update your post.

The image tile now carries video metadata. When clicked by a site visitor, the lightbox opens and renders the video player rather than a static photo.

Global Video Playback Settings

Configure video playback behavior globally across your site under Square Orb > Presentation Defaults > Video:

  • Autoplay Lightbox Videos:
    • When enabled, videos start playing automatically the moment they are opened in the Lightbox overlay.
    • When disabled, videos wait in a paused state until the user clicks the player’s play button.

To ensure an optimal user experience and preserve system resources:

  • Automatic Teardown: Navigating to the next or previous slide immediately unloads the active video player. This prevents audio from continuing to play in the background while viewing other gallery photos.
  • Responsive Sizing: Video player containers scale smoothly to fit within the visitor’s viewport while maintaining a standard 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio (constrained to a maximum 900 × 506 px desktop bounding box for optimal presentation).
  • Filmstrip Compatibility: Gallery assets with associated videos remain fully navigable in the bottom Lightbox filmstrip.
